San Diego may not get snow, but the holiday spirit here is absolutely real. Every December, neighborhoods across the county go all out with incredible light displays that rival anything you’ll see anywhere in the country. Here’s where to find the best ones.

Candy Cane Lane (Poway)

This is the big one. The Hickory Street and surrounding blocks in Poway transform into a winter wonderland every year, with homeowners going absolutely over the top with synchronized light shows, life-size nativity scenes, and enough inflatable characters to fill a warehouse. It’s free to walk or drive through, and the whole neighborhood gets into the spirit. Go on a weeknight to avoid the worst traffic.

Christmas Card Lane (Rancho Penasquitos)

Another legendary San Diego light display. The residents of Oviedo Street have been decorating for decades, and each house has its own unique theme. Some go classic elegant, others go full Clark Griswold. There’s usually hot chocolate and cookie vendors at the entrance. It’s a perfect family activity.

Hotel del Coronado

The iconic Hotel del Coronado puts up a massive Christmas tree and lights the entire beachfront property. The combination of the historic Victorian architecture, twinkling lights, and ocean breeze creates something genuinely magical. Take a walk on the beach after and you might see the hotel reflecting off the wet sand — it’s postcard-perfect.

San Diego Bay Parade of Lights

This boat parade happens two Sundays in December and it’s spectacular. Over 80 boats decorated with lights sail through San Diego Bay. Best viewing spots are Shelter Island, Harbor Island, and the Embarcadero. Get there early with blankets and chairs — the good spots fill up fast. Free to watch and one of San Diego’s most unique holiday traditions.
