Leucadia has always had a laid-back, slightly bohemian energy that makes it one of the best stretches of coast in North County. Now it has a cocktail bar that matches the vibe perfectly. Driftwood Social opened on Vulcan Avenue in a converted mid-century space that feels like the coolest living room you’ve never been invited to — until now.
The Vibe
Think vintage surf meets speakeasy. Reclaimed wood paneling, low-slung leather furniture, Edison bulbs, and a killer sound system playing everything from Khruangbin to classic Bowie. The outdoor area has fire pits, string lights, and enough tropical plants to feel like you’re drinking in someone’s very well-curated backyard. No TVs, no sports — just conversation and good music. It’s the kind of place Leucadia has been missing.
The Drinks
The cocktail program is run by a former Raised by Wolves bartender, and it shows. Every drink on the menu has four or fewer ingredients, which means nothing is over-complicated and everything tastes clean and intentional. The “Coast Highway” — mezcal, grapefruit, jalapeño, agave — is already becoming a signature. The “Leucadia Fog” is a gin-based drink with butterfly pea flower that changes color when you add the citrus. It’s genuinely fun without being gimmicky.
Beer and wine are available too, with a rotating selection of local craft beers from Burgeon, Pizza Port, and Rip Current. The natural wine list is short but well-curated.
Good to Know
Open Wednesday through Sunday, 5pm to midnight. No reservations — it’s first come, first served, which keeps the energy right. They do a happy hour Wednesday and Thursday from 5-7 with $10 cocktails. The bar snacks are solid — the elote corn nuts and the smoked fish dip are worth ordering every time. No cover, free street parking, and a very easy walk from the Coaster station.
